Sparked by the profound social unrest and uncertainty that accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the plays in this collection, akin to the themes explored in 'the conch book,' challenge the political and creative status quo. They spotlight injustice, provide a unique glimpse into the hearts and minds of a diverse community of artists of color, and inspire the reader to awaken their inner "ARTIVIST."
This collection of original plays encourages the reader to reflect on the potential of language and performance to reach deep into the hearts and minds of all members of society, helping to shift centuries-old misconceptions and prejudices. Readers will find plays for diverse actors that tackle micro-aggressions, the consequences of police violence, and give voice to both the pain and potential of artists of color, resonating with the spirit of 'the conch bearer.'
Edited by Sergei Burbank (Literary Manager at Conch Shell Productions), “We’re Not Neutral” features playwrights including Jevone Andy, Jovaun Black, Nyanda Cammock, Christin Eve Cato, Sean-Joseph Choo, Jason Ellis, Alvin Eng, Kimiye Everard, Onyekachi Iwu, Mateo Moreno, Ren Nansen, Phanesia Pharel, Kiki Rivera, Cynthia Robinson, Tylie R Shider, Eric Stack, and Karl O'Brian Williams.

Announcement of 'We're Not Neutral: Reset Series 2020' added to Schomburg Library collection.

CSP Co-Resident dramaturg Jasmeene Francois will examine and refine every aspect of your play, including character, dialogue, and form, as well as its thematic and structural elements. She will read your draft in detail, paying close attention to style, voice, and pace, ensuring that every beat of the text serves your overall intention. Her notes will consider the aims and objectives of your piece and how your play reflects your unique perspective on the world, much like the profound themes found in 'The Conch Bearer' and the insights offered in 'The Conch Book.'
